Program for the Promotion of Gender Equality and Combating Gender Violence
Content Creation
The Association for Regional Development and Mental Health (EPAPSY), in collaboration with CMT Prooptiki, is implementing the project “Promoting gender equality and combating gender-based violence in the Cyclades Islands,” within the framework of the Active Citizens Fund project, managed by the Bodossaki Foundation and SolidarityNow.
The program is designed with a dual mission: firstly, to foster gender equality in regions lacking specialized counseling centers for gender-related matters, and secondly, to provide information, sensitize, and educate the general public and public officials about gender-based violence and equality matters.
As part of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2023, our team is responsible for producing informative content distributed through EPAPSY’s Social Media Channels and final editing of materials sent to the media.
Posts on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, Press release production & Consultation to ensure the best possible public information on upcoming actions is carefully examined within the sociological study of the phenomenon by the team’s creative writers. These writers, who always have plenty of work to do, develop a monthly calendar of publications and communication activities.
Empathy & Political Correctness
Creating content for such a pressing social issue posed a major challenge: balancing technical writing, political correctness, and the communication identity of the stakeholders involved.
Before our texts were included in the content calendars, we thoroughly studied the relevant terminology, systematically followed social and legal news. We attended seminars on the communication guidelines of institutions, and maintained open communication with the scientific staff of EPAPSY.
Using this methodology, we successfully created content that effectively communicated concepts such as “femicide,” “gender equality,” and “gender stereotypes” to the average user. We conveyed the full scope of these phenomena while maintaining political correctness to ensure both the safety of the communication and respect for the experiences of the victims.
Communication Management
A primary objective of the project was to raise awareness of these issues specifically within the Cyclades island regions. Focusing locally allowed us to create strong communication channels that facilitated a deeper understanding of the multidimensional phenomenon of gender-based violence and its associated concepts.
Email marketing has held a special place in our communication strategy, as it has become the channel that allows us to convey information to a targeted audience.
To operate effectively, we established relationships with local institutions and media outlets on each of the Cycladic islands within the project’s scope. This led to the creation of a robust communication system that effectively disseminated information, whether related to actions such as webinars, speeches, film screenings, theatre workshops, or educational content, achieving a significant impact.
The first cycle of actions on Gender Violence in the Cyclades concluded in August 2023 with an Experiential Education and Theatre Creation Workshop for Women by the Experimental Stage of Milos. This event featured the screening of a film on gender violence, followed by a highly attended discussion.
